Consumer Reports

A recent article in Consumer Reports profiled on WebMD stated that organic body care products are not worth spending the extra money in contrast to spending a little more on organic produce, for example.  One of the reasons for the negativity is that "products typically contain a mix of ingredients that didn't necessarily come from organic agriculture."

The article continues by stating Consumer Reports' guide to product labels:

  • "100% organic": No synthetic ingredients are allowed by law.
  • "Organic": At least 95% of ingredients are organically produced.
  • "Made with Organic Ingredients": At least 70% of ingredients are organic; the other 30% are from a list approved by the USDA.
  • "Natural" or "All Natural": Doesn't mean organic. No standard definition, except for meat and poultry products, which may not contain any artificial flavoring, colors, chemical preservatives, or synthetic ingredients. Claims aren't checked.

If you take a look at the labels on your body care products, you will see of list of products, many of which you may not even be able to pronounce, let alone identify.  Even certain "organic" products contain preservatives and synthetic ingredients.  Wild Mountain Organics contains no synthetic ingredients whatsoever.  We rely on nature's preservatives such as Vitamin E and grapefruit seed extract.

The ingredients in our products are organic ingredients.  Granted, while some of the ingredients are not from certified organic growers (many growers are too small to go through the cost prohibitive certification process but adhere to organic practices), the products would meet organic standards set by the FDA.

If you have any questions about our products, please do not hesitate to contact us directly.  We would be happy to discuss them with you!

World Fair Trade Day

World Fair Trade Day is a celebration of Fair Trade internationally, with events organized worldwide. On May 14th, member organizations based in 60 countries, along with Fair Trade shops and networks, will host events with campaigning and lobbying - all with the aim of promoting fairer trade with marginalized and small scale producers in the majority world. Fair Trade products, from coffee and tea, through clothes, jewelry, and beautiful handicrafts will be in the spotlight on this day, and throughout the month of May. Most of the ingredients in Wild Mountain Organics' products are produced locally and grown organically. Those products and ingredients not produced locally are purchased via fair trade. For example, our Shea Butter which is used in our Replenishing Face Cream and Skin Repair Cream is purchased from Africa via fair trade. For more information, please visit World Fair Trade Day.
